Being a social outcast in high school isn’t a fitting punishment for committing multiple felonies that probably cost the EqG world’s taxpayers many thousands of dollars. I’m sure there are lots of people who use this very site who went through that for relatively nothing at all.

I’m not saying Starlight didn’t get off easy too. If villains (and heroes for that matter) weren’t wholeheartedly reformed in a matter of seconds then instantly forgiven for everything, this would be a totally different show. Just don’t try to say your Sunset Shimmer is any better.

No, I got what you were trying to say. It’s just the Hitler part kinda made me giggle.
 
In the end, I just cut to the ending part: “I just mean the fact an evil person having these ideals in THEIR EYES, doesn’t make it acceptable or OK in the long run.” To which, I’d respond that I don’t think Mr. Horrible’s statement was trying to show how her actions were ethical. Instead, I think that the intention was to show that the backstory also gave us an understanding of just how long Starlight had clung to the idea of Cutiemarks = Bad. And so after that long, it was going to be a really difficult battle to convince her Twilight’s friends getting their CMs was pretty much vital to Equestria having a decent future. Even after seeing the end-of-days bit when they skip forward together, she probably was still having a hard time believing any of this.
 
And this is important because it means she probably didn’t fully comprehend the consequences of her actions. To her it was just: use time travel to get back at Twi. It wasn’t: use time travel to get back at Twi and if that ruins everything then oh well that’s probably worth it. This doesn’t really get her off the hook, but it does make her a bit less culpable for all the horrifying destruction that came about as a result of her actions.

If Shimmer had to face the consequences of her actions, she’d be spending the rest of her life behind bars. To say she got a slap in the wrist would be a vast understatement.

Sunset was instantly forgiven in the movie she was reformed in. It was the NEXT movie that had her go through hoops with everyone else. Not EQG1, Rainbow Rocks. Starlight was reformed in Re-Mark, we have yet to see anything else so yes, they can be compared.

I compared her to him in terms of the forgiveness and redemption aspect. Not in terms of what they did. I even said, forgive my crude comparison.

Because Sunset wasn’t immediately forgiven. Yes, both did bad things, but there’s a huge difference. Sunset had to go through hoops and suffer the consequences of her actions. Starlight did not. She got off Scott free and was immediately forgiven. It’s as simple as that. That’s why I don’t like her redemption.

She is not a sociopath. She is dedicated.
 
Anyone else would be vindictive too if some shrill Timmy Turner sounding teenager with plot armor wrecked her life dreams because a blip of light on a stone map said it was a juicy target (a very sociopathic thing to do fyi).

Okay, since I’m going to bet that I’m the Background Pony you were talking about, Gamer, you need to stop with Sunset.
 
Sunset in EQG1, had manipulated the entire school into hating her, mind controlled the student body and teachers, tried to cause a war between humans and ponies, tried to kill the Mane 6, and why did she do it? Power. She wanted to be a princess and was willing to steal one of the most important artifacts and put all of Equestria in danger for it. And, even if Demon Shimmer was overwhelmed, it was an exaggeration of what she was planning already. She wanted Equestria.
 
After all that, Twilight and the HuMane 5 forgave and accepted her despite it being shown she ruined their friendship for at least 3 years, did some fiasco to Rarity, and even used other people to get power.
 
It took an entire other movie for her redemption to be shown to be genuine and to be forgiven by everyone else.
 
In other words, dude, stop counting your chickens before they hatched.
 
I mean, c’mon, even after season 4, we are shown that there is still trust issues with Discord. Why don’t you cool your jets?

And when I see Starlight in season 6 and if it’s handled well I’ll probably like her but I’ll wait till I actually see it.

That’s the key, yet. There are thousands of fans the globe and we aren’t going to like everything the same. I’ll be honest, I hated Rainbow Dash during the first season. I didn’t like her episodes because I didn’t like the character, but by season 3, I realized that I was being way too harsh on Rainbow and went back. While I still think she’s a bit much in her early appearances, I can enjoy her scenes and episodes much better than I did before and I do like her character now.
