the guitar actually makes more sense than ‘falling in love due to looks’. guitar playing technically can get better with age. beauty will fade eventually (unless you devote unnatural ways to keep beautiful)

You can’t argue the fact that he has a guitar! People HAVE and WILL fall in ‘love’ with someone for shallower things!
 
And like Twilight would know what LOVE is. She’s have her perception, but come on: Her mentor hasn’t had a coltfriend, why would she concern herself with that?

I still do think it’s likely that of all the people Sunset hurt back in the day, it’s not a stretch of the imagination to think he might be among those she hurt worst.

Alternatively, he could just be the only one who’s civil towards her, despite hating her just as much as (if not more than) everybody else. Something like “I never forgave you. I just moved on.”

too bad the “Now that’s the bad girl we love to hate!” line says differently. granted he and the other students are slowly being controlled by the dazzlings but still, that line has to come from somewhere.

And they missed a good opportunity to have him do something right in Rainbow Rocks. All they had to do is take like thirty seconds, tops, near the beginning for him to be forgiving towards Sunset while everyone else still wanted to burn her at the stake. Show that if nothing else, he’s at least ahead of the curve in terms of human decency.

Ok, there’s a difference between having a crush- an infatuation- and actually being in love with someone.
 
They don’t bother to explain or explore this at all… which is another thing that’s lazy about his inclusion.
 
Also, ‘He has a guitar’? Seriously?

Actually, it’d be “nothing for the nerd”: It has to be an electric guitar seen in a rock band, either bass or rhythm.
 
Any other string-instrument is often seen as “nerdy”, though apparently there are some positive results for those who play Acoustic… well… “played”… not as many do anymore.

They aren’t meant to establish why “love makes sense”, because once they cement a concrete reason to a character, dumb little kids will think that’s what to look for with “love”.
 
And I can guaran-damn-tee you, if the precedent was “smelling like cookies”, there’d be little-to-no relationships going on based on love!

Maybe they are? That really isn’t relevant to his current status, nor how it’s insulting. If they couldn’t devote time to him, they should have not included him, or simply made Twilight not interested in him.

i get the feeling that is the most logical route the writers would take seeing that cliche keeps popping up in romance movies almost constantly and some people think those will work in real life.

i’ve got a feeling that they’re saving the human flash stuff (poor pony flash has even less to work with) for later seeing the writers backed themselves in the corner with the first (they have a plot-centric deadline to deal with, so even if they wanted to it’s not enough to devote the ‘get the crown plot’ and ‘know more about flash sub-plot’) and second (stop the dazzlings ASAP because those girls are doing more damage in a few days than what sunset did in years) movies.  
though i am not keen to it if they try the cliche ‘romantic triangle’ conflict. plus there’s the whole dimensional thing (talk about long distance relationship) they have to resolve. i don’t want it to turn out like transformers energon where they never even let the two characters with a dangling romantic sub-plot from transformers armada meet.
