I’ll grant that there’s only so much you can do in a certain amount of time, but all the time in the world won’t help if they don’t use it right. He needs to make an impression.

As for Aquaman? He’s fucking awesome. Joking about his superfriends image is funny (and yeah, it’s ingrained in pop culture), but I’ve seen enough of him done right that I, personally, am a fan of the character.
 
As for Flash? I would be all for them developing him as a character, and yeah, it would involve more screentime- I mean, check the movies- how long is he on-screen compared to any of the girls? Is he involved much in the plot at all?
 
However, that said, I’m not sure you could make Flash a believable romantic interest for Twilight- What little suggestion of to his personality and interests (It’s implied he might be a sports star, and definitelyl clear he’s a bit of a rocker- he was in a band before the Battle of the Bands thing even started.) were the classic “Popular guy” fodder that Sunset Shimmer was after when she hooked up with him to boost her own popularity- the only reason he even was used as Twilight’s Love interest was to create a psuedo “Competing for the guy” Rivalry that’s used in so many High School Dramas- not because Twilight would find him interesting.
 
Unless they’re going for the plot arc of “Guy you have a crush on because of hormones, but turns out to be a poor match”, but that, I think, is giving the writers more credit than they deserve and more foresight than they have.
 
Really, the only thing that implies he might be a possible good match is (Surprise!) the one scene where he actually does something. Where he somehow figures out Snips and Snail’s scheme (How does he do that, exactly? I can’t recall if they show that. Hell, how does he even find out Twilight’s in trouble? I think that they don’t bother.), and immediatelly runs to Twilight’s rescue.
 
It shows that he (At least, thanks to plot convinience) has enough wits to uncover and foil a scheme with surprising scheme, and the nobility to come and help a girl he barely knows. If they expanded upon that, and took more time to define him, I’d feel better about him. But they don’t bother. See? That’s the theme with him they don’t bother.

worse if even if EG3 makes flash interesting/awesome, people will treat him as if nothing postive happened (aquaman is still haunted by his superfriends incarnation after all, nevermind the JLU and Brave and the Bold incarnations)

actually screen time and characterization kinda goes hand in hand in this case. at least for some, they have to see flash earn the ‘twilight’s love interest’ before even considering him to be worthy of that (“it’s off-screen, it doesn’t count” types of deal).

It doesn’t have to be more screen time, I don’t think, just make better use of the same amount of time. As it stands, Flash is more or less a blank slate. That’s the problem. Give him something to do. How about in EqG 3, he accidentally learns the truth about Twilight, Sunset, and the things that happened because of them, and realizes he’s in over his head?

curious to know just how much screen time would i take for flash to be a believable ‘no slap to the fans’ love interest to twilight? because it sounds like it would take a complete history of flash sentry to placate SOME fans (i’m afraid even that would NOT be enough for some).

i meant that bruce was pretty harsh to the batman copy cats in ‘dark knight’ but handed the mantle to john blake. though in blake’s defense, he has training and the skills as a cop so he’s qualified but still rings of hypocrisy when bruce didn’t like the copycats but explained to blake the symbolism and inspiration aspect of being the batman

Similarly, there’s not enough that has “changed” in the past seven years to make me, and I cannot speak for other Americans, unconditionally love Obama. However, I love the symbol he stands for, a simple and inspiring one: He’s the very first black president of the United States.
 
That, in turn, I equate to the symbol of Batman, in which the Dark Knight series says Batman can be anyone who wants to aid the weak and punish the unjust.

Honestly, I find this comic slightly insulting, probablly not for the reasons people would think.
 
I don’t like Flash Sentry, or his relationship with Twilight because I have any sort of “waifu” affection for Twilight, or anything absurd or stupid like that.
 
I don’t like Flash Sentry is because he’s lazy. Not him, personally, but on the part of the writers. He exists because the setting of a High School drama states that the “Love Interest” character must exist. So they made him to be Twilight’s Love interest.
 
And then failed to provide any other characteristics, outside of the most superficial, then failed to involve him in the plots of either movie in any significant scene with a single exception. Literally, the plot of the first movie could function almost entirelly without him, and the second one completelly so.
 
He’s Twilight’s Love Interest because The Writers Say So, not because he’s a character that would on any level actually engage with her. If played realistically, after the initial infactuation, Twilight would probablly find herself bored and irritated by Flash’s lack of intellect and shallow interests.
 
I hate Flash Sentry not because he’s Twilight’s Love interest. I have him because he’s a lazy, shallow, cliche-obligated slap in the face of all the fans by the writers.
 
Sure, I want Twilight to find love. I’d be nothing but happy for her. But I want it done well, and realistically, not by writer fiat. She’s too developed a character for that to work. Anything less than that is basically the writers mooning us and saying they can do anything they want with the characters we love, just because they just don’t care. and that’s kind of infuriating.
 
Honestlly, thinking about it… I really don’t hate Flash Sentry. There’s not enough there to hate. I hate what he represents. I hate the utter disrespect and contempt for the fans he emodies. And it’s not contempt or disrespect born of hatred, but one of apathy. Which is even worse.

now i can’t stop thinking twilight is the equivalent of the blade liger from zoids…at one point literally fired at the big bad
 
and yes, sunset choosing where to stay would probably be one of the focus of EG3 (or at least, a subplot)

Yeah, I’m down with that idea. I guess the only really big question is…when EG’s story ends, will Sunset’s story end as well? Or will she return to Equestria feeling she can re-enter Equestria with her head held high? Depending on how they do the series, and how they want Sunset to have an impact on Celestia and settle their differences, the end of EG’s may be the start of MLP:FiM seasons where the now Mane 7 and Celestia and Luna have far more interaction. No more security net stories where Celestia fires Twilight at every problem Equestria faces.
 
The way they wrote Twilight since the very beginning created a gap between the fairly sociable Celestia and the Mane 6.
 
The way Sunset is written seems to be the only way to repair that gap.
 
Makes me wonder how far in advance they were planning to introduce Sunset as a main character, especially with that cutie mark of hers. Season 3 was a short season afterall… Post S2? Even earlier? Who knows.

Point taken. Just saying if they do decide to end the series, that’d be the way to do it in my opinion.
 
As for Flash? I suspect the poor reception he received last time around might have made them hesitant to give him much airtime this time around.
