I suspected it was one, which is why my reply included that self-depreciative barb regarding the quality of our military command (in all honesty, when a bunch of armchair generals keep letting Zee Germans steamroll you all the way to Paris when your forces were evenly matched to begin with, you can't help but wonder if you didn't deserve it a little bit: it happened in 1870, it almost happened in 1914, and then it happened again in 1940 after all).
