I think the r/fallout mods should create some sort of megathread for Outer Worlds discussions, at least for now (maybe until r/theouterworlds becomes more popular).

Many anti-consumer decisions in the industry seem to be due to executive meddling.

Personally I liked 2 over 1, 3 over 2, NV over 3, and 4 over NV. You might notice a pattern there, only broken by me preferring 1 over Tactics.

I’ve really only ever played like 10 hours (at best) of Fallout 4, but my brother got hooked with Fallout 3 when it came out

I think newer entries in the series were better than previous ones, regardless of developer. Tactics being the exception.

Yeah, I mean, I don’t think Wyatt Cheng wanted to give fans news that a mobile Diablo was coming but he had no choice.  
Publishers and holding studios always want to put in what makes the most profit. The Wilson loot box, which funnily enough came about due to FIFA Ultimate Team Card Packs. Bioware may want to make Anthem a good game but EA will find a way to suck profits out of it.  
I think the Auction House was a decision by executives to get more profit from the game.

If nothing else I recommend reading up on the lore and backstory. Cool stuff.
 
Oxhorn and Shoddycast youtube channels are great for delving into the stuff. Both for different reasons: Oxhorn is better for seeing the incidental worldbuilding aspects of the world, but kinda jumps all over the place in vids making it difficult to find a jumping on point. Shoddycast has a neat episodic series that all tie and lead into each other, making his easier for non-fans to understand the big picture. I recommend both.

Also, why would pirates matter when AAA companies get their money through pre-orders and microtransactions?

I dabbled in the former quite awhile ago. May I recommend ESO? I know that his channel says guides, but he does go into the lore quite a bit, and was the one that actually found the lore in 76 to be worth it (though his video I linked earlier does show that he’s not putting up with the shit that 76 is asking for).

I haven’t played it in a bit (I blame MHW and RDR2), but it’s really good (and unlike FO76, it was made by a studio that actually knows how to make multiplayer games).

I’ve played it it’s pretty good does a good job feeling like a proper offshoot of the TES series and a great character customization setup, also no subscription needed after buying it,

Can’t believe that Mass Effect Andromeda book finally came out. Now to finally find out what happened to the Quarian arc.
