Last I checked, the human brain is beyond saving after a few minutes' anoxia, ten or so at most. Hypothermia extends the time frame somewhat, though.
 
The longest I've heard of someone surviving without air was somewhere in the 45min range (IIRC), but that person had fallen through ice and the water they drowned in was very near freezing, so they were close to suspended animation...


 
No idea for how long equines can suffocate without dying, but I'd assume anything sapient can't survive much longer than humans. Brains do take quite a lot of oxygen to operate.
