Based on What About Discord and The Hoofields and the Mccolts, I think it's more that Twilight has put what a Princess of Friendship _should_ be on a really high pedestal in her mind, but she's insecure on whether she's actually reaching said pedestal. It would explain why she was so uncharacteristicly disappointed when the map didn't choose her two times in a row in season five, and why she was trying to deny to herself that she was feeling jealous in WAD.
Thus, in an attempt to prove to herself that she's "worthy" of her position, whenever she encounters a friendship problem, she overcompensates. Examples would be her bringing a whole "friendship portfolio" in THATM, and trying to link this episode to her duties.
