That's okay, this franchise is very weird about it's magic and the fandom tends to suffer for it.
Every unicorn can learn magic, but apparently only their own, except for a completely random subset of them that are blessed with magic in general and are also the only ones that can use the magic of the hundreds of books made for magic.
And that's such a minority of unicorns, you'd think maybe the common unicorns can still use that knowledge to better their own magic, otherwise the books are a waste of paper, but the cartoon seems to think otherwise.
To use your analogy, we don't think all humans are powerful wizards, but there seems to be a number of reasons there should be plenty, if not as great, then at least comparable.
