Correct. In Africa, male Giant Sable Antelopes would protect large harems of females of up to 15 to 20 or more from immediate danger. While the females tend to the young while also protecting them as well.
 
A lot of Antelope species form herds like these. It's efficient enough to help spread the males genes to the next generation. So the fawns would be strong and protective when they are grown. It also helps when females also tend to look for the biggest, most fit looking males to look after them.
