I can imagine this was only possible by projecting each frame onto the pumpkins from a fixed point, tracing that projection and then cutting it out.
I imagine that each pumpkin could have 2 (or possibly 3 if the picture spans less than 1/6th of the circumference ) frames carved into it, given that the curvature of the pumpkin would obscure the others.
