Of course Americans don't like Europe's _*history_* (the post said "Europe's past"). Our ancestors literally came here to get away from it :P


 
I mean, yeah, Europe has a space program, so I'd call it at least largely modern. The political climate there is a mess, though. But that's for another thread. Suffice it to say, I'd be afraid to state my opinions there. That's oppressive.


 
Plus, no manned spaceflight aside from Russia. Srsly. That's sad. I may be a buit obsessed with that (manned spaceflight).
