Really, if this is actually Discord's actions and not some overt takeover from a sort of split personality - I kind of suspect this is an analogue to the Nightmare Moon transformation - this kind of seems like a Moral Event Horizon for Discord. Yes yes, Twilight controlled people, but she wasn't in her right mind and it was simply an enhancement of a desire for a toy. Discord is actively brainwashing people, overwriting their personalities...and in doing so has turned Luna, who struggled so hard to reform and regain her place in the world, and Twilight, the closest Celestia has ever had to a daughter, into mindless puppets out of spite. I cannot see Discord bringing himself back from this petty and honestly evil act, not without being brought to task for what amounts to a coup. IIRC, he even Tried to overwroite FLUTTERSHY, the one pony who EVER gave him an honest chance at redemption.
All that's missing is him making Sunset evil to really drive this into the ground.
