I'm sure there will be some delusional shippers who will try to twist this into something it's not, yes. But it's quite clearly just a friendship comic, so they won't be doing anything but making themselves look like a fool.

Don't let them ruin the issue for you if you happen to like it, I guess.
 
Also, number one just depends on how IDW does it's writing this time, as I find it's been a very mixed bag, but I'll leave it at that, don't really feel like getting into an argument on that topic.

No, while it doesn't for a second mean you can't enjoy them just as much, the comics clearlyjust aren't canon. Of course you'd expect them to contain certain key elements from MLP though, like the Equestria Games. Lot's of fanfics obviously contain the Equestria Games too, and lot's of other stuff from the show too, because they're also set in the world of MLP, but that doesn't make them anymore canon either.
