Then why didn't she do it with Trixie? Trixie did the exact same thing Starlight did on a much smaller scale (albeit under the influence of an outside source). If we follow the logic you're going with, why isn't Twilight trying to make peace and be friends with Trixie? Because she can't use her as a way to make Celestia proud, that's why. She sees taking Starlight as her pupil as a way to make Celestia proud of her.
Face it, to Twilight, Celestia's pride in her is the entire reason she gets up in the morning. It's actually borderline scary if you think about it.
