It doesn't really matter if they know about the specific relationship; she has 2 black eyes and are covered in bruises and scratches. They_*know_* some pony is abusing her, or at the very least she's enganging in some extremely reckless and dangerous activity. Applejack may be able to fool Apple Bloom with stories about walking into barn doors, but, considering she's still living on the farm with them, Granny and Big Mac _*will_* know, and will push her to tell them.
But my point was mostly about how Big Mac is very often used as the over-protective jerk big brother in innocent, loving shippings (so far I've seen 3 fanfics with Soarin' and 2-3 short comics with Caramel), yet always mysteriously stay silent in serious situations.
It's your story, and you're free to tell it however you want, I'm not disputing that. :)I'
