Why are people **again** surprised?
 
Without counting Twilight, the Mane6 are basically normal ponies (RD slightly less) without the elements or rainbow power.
 
If the enemy is something bigger than a pony, and has a way to counter Twilight's magic, then its only natural they'd be screwed until the came up with a plan.


 
People just seem to enjoy thinking they're warriors or something, even when its been shown once and again its not the case.  
And its better that way because it makes things much more interesting than just making them another boring set of PPGs.
