"Rainbow Dash!? What happened to you!? What's going on!?" Twilight shrieked, frightened at her friend's behavior, shift of colors, destructive eye-lasers, and bone-chilling laughter. Her purple wings flapped as she soared up to the creature's eye level, but kept a (hopefully) safe distance.


 
The face that turned to look at her was like something out of a nightmare. Rainbow Dash looked psychotic, her eyes glowing red with power, her teeth more resembling a bear trap than natural pony teeth. The _*horrid,_* wide smile on her face made electricity surge up Twilight's spine. This was not a pony; it was a monster that resembled a pony, a

*creature_* that genuinely didn't care to distinguish friend from foe. This was all a game, to her. It was all fun, to her. Their immediate surroundings and the lives of nearby ponies were mere playthings, to her.


 
"RAINBOW DASH ISN'T HOME RIGHT NOW!" the creature that wasn't her friend cackled. "I'M IN CONTROL HERE! AND NOW IT'S TIME TO **DIE,** YOU HYBRID FREAK!!"


 
Rainbow's peals of psychotic laughter hurt Twilight's ears almost as much as the ear-splitting buzzing noise of the powerful laser that almost burned a hole through her torso, but the ensuing explosion from the impact behind her utterly obliterated Town Hall. She looked back for just long enough to recognize the wreckage when pain exploded in her side and she hit the ground, hard. She quickly rolled out of the way of an incoming laser, staring up at the laughing demon high above her. "Rainbow Dash, please, fight it! This isn't you! I-I don't know what this is, but it's not you!"


 
"ARE YOU KIDDING!? I'VE NEVER FELT BETTER!" Another laser blew a sizeable crater in the ground where Twilight was standing a half-second ago. Storm clouds surged overhead, the explosions of lightning rattling any loose items on the ground, the tearing winds blowing the lighter wreckage around. Twilight ducked to avoid a store sign that almost hit her square in the eyes. "WHAT'S THE MATTER, PRINCESS? CAN'T HANDLE A LITTLE VIOLENCE!?"


 
Twilight's horn surged with power, and she wrapped her strongest, tightest, most unbreakable levitation aura around Rainbow Dash. The creature struggled for a moment, before it flapped its wings so forcefully that the aura broke like a glass window. A muted rainbow comet shot into the sky, taking a hard turn before speeding directly at Twilight.


 
Twilight teleported to the other side of the destroyed Town Hall, watching as the multicolored meteor impacted the ground and annihilated Pthe Townyville Square, throwing chunks of dirt and rock in every direction. Standing in the middle of the massive crater, no worse for wear, was the monster, still laughing, staring directly at Twilight even though she shouldn't have been able to tell where she was amidst all the smoke and rain. This was just a joke to her.


 
"I CAN SMELL YOUR FEAR, TWILIGHT! YOU CAN'T HIDE! AND DON'T RUN; YOU'LL ONLY DIE TIRED!"


 
Twilight only blinked, and the monster was nose-to-nose with her. She shrieked, backpedaling and casting her brother's trademark shield spell.


 
"I'M GOING TO KILL YOU NICE AND SLOW," the monster snarled, slowly approaching her. "AND THE BEST PART WILL BE POOR RAINBOW DASH'S FACE WHEN SHE SEES WHAT I'VE DONE TO YOU! WHAT **SHE'S** DONE TO YOU!" It walked through her shield as if it wasn't there at all. Twilight felt cold. Freezing. Her face was suddenly wet, outrageously cold, and she swallowed some of the cold -- it made her cough and--


 
Everything dissolved away, her limbs flailing as she coughed. She wiped at her face, her eyes opening to see the concerned face of her protege, an empty bucket floating next to her. "Twilight? You were having a nightmare... I could hear you yelling from my room. Something about Rainbow Dash? Should I talk to her?"


 
Twilight took a moment to catch her breath, her sheets freezing cold from the water, but she didn't want to move. "I... no. It's fine. Everything's fine. It was... scary, though."


 
"I'm surprised Princess Luna didn't step in, if it was that bad." Starlight frowned.


 
"That's because it wasn't a dream." Twilight swallowed, averting her eyes. "It was a memory."
