In the time they were given, it probably would not have been feasible unless they were completely on point with their pacing, and the writers have a bit of history of not pacing things well. Ultimately, if they did consider Flash, they had to choose between him and Trixie and well...


 
A. Trixie is a popular character. Regardless of what you think of her, that can't be understated.
 
B. Though it has died down quite a bit of over the years, there's still the Waifu Thief stigma. After all, we've had people frothing at the mouth when Flash showed up twice in the main series for _*three seconds_* (He didn't even have any dialogue in the first time). Trixie is obviously the safer choice.


 
Speaking of which, this was probably one of the better paced MLP releases to come out of DHX. Certainly better paced than the Movie, that's for sure.
