They got hangovers from drinking hard cider? That's odd. That stuff has enough sugar and fluid that you really shouldn't get a hangover from it (I certainly haven't, and I have drunk cases of the stuff at a time).
 
Honestly speaking, down a bottle of sports drink when you are done drinking, stops a hangover from even starting. (Source: over 25 years of drinking experience.)
