Wikipedia gives "English alphabet" as the name of the current Latin-derived set of characters that we reffer to as "letters" and use to construct words. While it may not always be a reliable source of in-depth research, I think we can agree that a publically-editable encyclopedia can be relied upon as a generally accurate source for the understanding of which terms correstpond to which concepts in general conversation,. For this reasond, you can take whatever ancient Anglo-Saxon set of glyphs you may be thinking of and, colloquially speaking, shove it.
