the problem with that logic is his wording.
 
"Study, work hard and focus on the betterment of Equestria."
 
and then to reinforce that: "you can either do what I say or play with your toys and make nothing of yourself"
 
that right there is harmful guilt tripping. okay, imagine you're a child, your teacher just destroyed your beliefs and one of your decorations for Christmas and you're told
"you're only allowed to study, don't play with the other students and don't play with toys because having a childhood will make you a loser." his priorities would be severely frowned upon in an actual school and he would be fired.
 
I know this because I've seen it from a Principle who tried to bully me into basically the same thing.
