In this comic, Luna had a coltgfriend a thousand years ago, and Luna got pregnant by him. But the coltfriend died from a then incurable disease. Luna's grief and anger turned her into Nightmare Moon, but Luna was able to hold it off long enough for Nyx to be born.
After Nightmare Moon was banished, Celestia found the filly she left behind. Celestia used some time magic to stop her aging process and seal her away, so Luna could take care of her daughter after being free from the moon and purified.
