Because clearly the others thought going out, in the evening, around a lake, just after it rained, was a fun activity. Considering how they made fun of her on the way out, it's hard to argue that she had ano obligation to tell them.

She didn't.
 
And, in fairness, Starlight and Twilight should have known better too.
