She is supposed to train her cadets properly, not to kick talented fliers out at the very first opportunity (especially after encouraging their behaviour all the time before instead of correcting it early).

 
Lightning did **not** deserve that excessive and cruel punishment, a "[demotion to wingpony":](https://www.derpibooru.org/1390989#comment_7222973) and some additional training would have been more than enough.
