I feel sorry for his GF. I'd say he's either got a mental issue (which is actually extremely likely) or he's just being lazy.

Subserviance of base desires to self-control is the foundation of any civilization. We're absolute animals, chimps that'd devolve into murder bands or couch potatoes if we didn't exercise the self-discipline (ie, ability to sacrifice a little today to get more in the future) necessary to run civilization.
