She must've hated powerlessness since she was a new born foal, for some reasons, she struggles to make friends, jealous of other ponies, especially adults and those are in position of authorities, struggle to wanted to be loved. Her past powerlessness made her life struggling, and some incidents might've happened to her parents, somepony else killed them, and she blames her powerlessness out of anything, leading to think power is everything into her deep sub-conscious mind.


 
When someone became evil, there's always reasons to be. Even knowing reasons, it is up to themselves to choose between good or evil, and if they continue to choose evil, then they are giving up to their own ignorance and have to face punishment until +__feel done with it+__ to the point of realizing the truth about life ideology.


 
(Basically, they values something else over friendship, however, villains can be forgiven and reformed if they value friendship, love, peace, abundance and/or prosperity as the top priorities. They'll fail to reform if they value grudge satisfaction, winning and/or control manipulating over what's good mentioned.)
