Several problems with that, compared to his girlfriend he was just the lesser of two evils, but he was still evil. If he wasn't the Elements wouldn't have worked on him. The elements turned him to stone. Literally no one but Discord got that treatment when they were zapped. and no, that wasn't Celestia and Luna specifically dealing out that punishment, that was a punishment the elements chose for him, indicating that on several levels he was still evil, just less so than his girlfriend.

Any trust that was broken between him and the ponies is no one's fault but his own. Twilight was perfectly flexible when he came to reforming villains as long as they willingly thought it out, Discord on the other hand was being a jerk just for the sake of being a jerk at certain points, particularly during the events of Three's A Crowd, so he has no excuses. So don't go blaming everyone but him.

There are different kinds of chaos however, Discord still went out of his way to mind rape the Mane 6 for shits and giggles. Keep in mind that he didn't have to go out of his way to turn the main six into the opposite of what they were, he just had to keep the elements away from them.

He could have just left them alone and went about his merry business, or you know, spread chaos in an area where they wouldn't be bothered by him?

Hell the fact that he simply transformed Fluttershy directly shows that he could have done that to any of the other main six, in other words he didn't have to go to the manipulation angle. He did it for his own amusement.

He was angry because Fluttershy never faltered under his verbal manipulation. Everyone else? He was pretty much having the time of his life.

But instead he mind-raped them into becoming complete jerks for his own amusement, cheered when Twilight had lost all hope in herself, and even went out of his way to make their home chaos Central for his own amusement.

The main problem is the way you're phrasing it is like Eris being more evil than him somehow makes his actions as a villain suddenly non-existant.

We're pointing out that just because he was less malicious and dangerous than his girlfriend, that doesn't automatically make him completely not evil in the slightest.

And finally, what comeuppance? All the ponies that orchestrated him are long since dead by this point. The only ones who are left are the ones who dished out the punishments that could have been avoided had he just left them alone. so where the hell does he get off suddenly claiming that everyone but him needs to be punished when he's the one who decided to make everyone his plaything with no regard for their well-being? And no, I'm not buying the "he took the blame for his girlfriend excuse", if he was really that noble-hearted he would have left Equestria the moment he supposedly fixed everything and made sure no one could track him down. But he decided to stick around and turn equestria into a fun house on steroids just for his own amusement, so it's his own damn fault that he got stuck as a lawn ornament for a thousand years, because the elements knew he deserved it.

And there is no "for a while", he was going to keep it that way permanently and you know it.

That's why no one here can get behind him suddenly being a good person from the start, because he wasn't, he was evil, slightly less evil than his girlfriend, but still evil none the less. Plain and simple.
