Hah, thats similar to how I got into MLP.
My nephew would "watch" MLP (ie. play on Netflix and completely ignore it) when I babysat him. So I picked up pieces of it, watched EQG (which is a really bad entry point in hindsight), went to FIM and the rest is history.
Ironically, since I got into the fandom I started showing him MLP fan videos and he likes those more than the show itself now.
