It kinda varries actually, I've seen "less attractive," (not necessarily "ugly") people with better looking partners before. Some care more about personality then looks, so not everyone who is "decent" or "good" looking is that shallow.
Some have different standards of beauty.

Well, beauty fades, so in a decade, or so, those two will probably get much less attractive. And jerks like that usually don't have long relationships.
