Except the USSR never really went capitalist and free market. China did.
 
Besides USSR collapsed before the internet was a thing. They also went down due to bad economic policies.
 
There's also stark cultural differences cultural between the two countries. Confucian principles heavily discourages questioning superiors for example. Asians are traditionally comformist. Which is why communist government survive in Asian countries as opposed to Eastern Europe.  
Besides, we're seeing Russia falling back into authoritarian rule under Putin.
