Discord was literally there when Sombra was diefeated. The "magic ball" was him showing things he personally witnessed with his magic.


 
Discord is the same guy who didn't notice the Mane Six weren't Discorded anymore until it was too late, so him failing to be detail-oriented out of overconfidence is hardly anything new.
