Obviously I don't speak for everyone, but if they had done that I would have respected it more. I still would go my own way, + I'd be disappointed in the forced timeskip shipping when that's something better saved for the fandom (not to mention the pains that would cause), but I would've mostly kept it to myself.
Alas, that's not what they did, and scrapped content is mostly irrelevant, so everyone has the freedom to say whether it is or is not canon_*in their own opinion_*. More arguing, but at least no one has to feel invalidated except by pushy shippers.
