I will admit I do prefer the earlier stories, (even some of the Micros) but even those seem to be getting hated just out of association of being part of the comics unfortunately... It's like some want to forget/pretend the comics never did anything good.
I actually remember when the "Twilicorn drama" happened, many flocked to the comics instead, and for a year insisted they were better then the show. Though, that may of just been, because Twilight was still wingless in them at the time.
