Turning Twilight into a princess didn't ruin anything, and why is it mandatory for someone to have kids? You don't need kids in order to be happy, happiness comes from achieving something, having a goal and fulfilling it which is what the others were shown to be doing. If this is about the whole Twilight outliving her friends thing, alicorn immortality has never been stated to be cannon. And the villains were not in a position to be redeemed, and they outright rejected it. Redeeming them would've only added to a bad habit that the show has been forcing onto us since Starlight.
