Idk, it's a niche franchise and last time they made a movie, they lost their chance of resurgence in popularity and made G4 still lesser-known since around 2014-2015. And not even the 64 million dollars gross out of a 6.5 million budget would salvage it from mainstream obscurity or have another chance at redemption.

The 2017 movie deserves better and critics should understand that it's faithful to the source material by **NOT** being a live-action movie like Bayformers, Smurfs and Alvin and the Chipmunks.

This movie is
going to be a hard reboot (because Hasbro cancelled what could have been a critically-redeeming sequel last year) and people won't know this new iteration as much as Friendship Is Magic and its spinoff (i.e. Equestria Girls and Pony Life) unless the film does it well.

What I am afraid is what people will think of this new iteration since people started disliking reboots of past properties such as Thundercats Roar, Rise of the TMNT, Bakugan: Battle Planet, Littlest Pet Shop: A World of Our Own and even Mega Man: Fully Charged and started missing their precious predecessors (such as TMNT 2012, LPS 2012, Thundercats 2011 (that deserves better), Bakugan: Battle Brawlers and the classic Megaman style). And what worries me more is that Tara Strong will no longer be in future MLP media and I don't know how to cope with that since the show ended, the MLP movie sequel is cancelled and Pony Life is not getting any praise from FiM fans.

However if it ends up as good as FiM and other good reboots (like DuckTales 2017 and DC SuperHero Girls 2019) with the storytelling and took risks and doesn't get into "gender identity politics" hot water like Birds of Prey and Captain Marvel, there's a chance it might end up being more successful than the FiM movie.
