He was "victimized" because mistakes were made by the Pillars AND Stygian, and things went the worst way they could. Honestly, being spurned by those you thought were your friends, for something that wasn't entirely your fault, filled with despair and spite... being at your lowest point would lead you to making pretty desperate decisions... I really felt for the guy.
