Granted, Dedede was pretty evil in some of the spinoffs, like in "Kirby Blowback Blast" where he becomes a[spoiler]||giant final boss,[spoiler]|| and Kirby Pinball Land where he trapped everybody in a pinball game. Though, maybe he just wanted to play.
In the anime, he's a flat-out jerk, though he's kinder in the games.
