A shame, as I remember Wayforward expressed interest in making an MLP game, and said they are "huge Lauren Faust fans."
 
I imagine a puzzle platformer similar to "Gameboy Donkey Kong '94" (the one where you have to carry a key to a door, and solve puzzles, basically a "much better version of Crazy Castle") would've been a great genre for it, and that would appeal to bronies, and kids alike.

Yeah, it's kinda an unfair comparison.
 
And granted the '80s MLP series was popular, but only mostly with it's target audience, but the same could be said about stuff like the 1970s "Superfriends" kiddy cartoon, and such. (They weren't even allowed to punch in those.)

Actually, I remember Nintendo Power magazine referenced MLP:FIM, and NOA even once had it on the Eshop thumbnail for the 3DS Netflix ap. I can't remember if images of those are here though.
