Thing is, red states are increasingly passing laws that punish trans people for simply existing at an alarming rate, to make matters worse they are actively trying to overstep boundaries by creating laws that even effect LGBT friendly blue states and that's not even mentioning the conservatives in congress who are trying to push this shi**t at the federal level.
TL:DR the US is becoming increasingly hostile towards LGBT people, because a significant portion of the population doesn't believe in separation of the church of state.
