It is usually said that the comics are not canon, except for season 10 (maybe), but that comic was a special crossover, so I don't know if I can take it as canon, we will have to wait and see if the series confirms it. (TYT or MYM or some G5 comic).
Note: Also, there is a comic where it explains that it was Spike "who created" the IDW comics
