Not true. Every single film "on this list":https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_expensive_animated_films is CG. And a lot of older 2D-animated films are surprisingly cheap when adjusted for inflation. (For instance, The Secret of NIMH is only about $18 million.)

I also hear while "Princess and the Frog" was quite successful, (and it was a good movie, I felt) it wasn't successful enough to keep interest in 2D traditional animation going. :(

I think part of the reason TPatF wasn't a huge hit (along with competition from James Cameron's Avatar) was because it was marketed as a typical princess film, unlike Tangled and Frozen, which were marketed as comedies. (I was 14 when TPatF was released, and I avoided it because I thought it looked lame and girly thanks to the Disney Princess franchise being aimed at girls for the past decade.)
(I know this comment is four years old, but I still wanted to make this point.)
