No, that's Human nature. Most places where people are free and not punished for questioning things are full of people who question things. Most places where people are forbidden to question are backwards. But like I said, that's not tradition, it's Human nature, so it's not in favor of either of our points.
 
You are also implying tradition started recently. Imagine if we never strayed away from traditions thousands of years in the past. Scientists were stymied in Europe(and sometimes in the USA later) during the Dark Ages through to the renaissance because their discoveries were contradicting their Religions. Human Sacrifice was also a tradition in some places. Bull fighting and animal cruelty are traditions from a long time ago, which have no place in the modern world.
