“art of equestria” only has two tags, which means you could edit those two images yourself. But an alias could still be useful to prevent more people from accidentally tagging images as “art of equestria”.

This isn’t e621. Just saying, tagging practices need not be alike. To wit, earring is for traditional earrings, ear piercing is for nontraditional earrings.

I’m just going to add a tad bit to the conversation. One could wear gauges or other non-standard earrings that aren’t classified as earrings. I wear barbells in my ears, but they’re not necessarily “earrings”.

Ipotane being a really obscure Greek creature, a humanoid with horse ears and bottom half. Which is essentially what “satyr” is used for nowadays.

maybe we should create the “ipotane” tag first to alias it? there’s no use aliasing it if it does not exist.

Maybe just put a note for the pedantic types on the description for the satyr tag.

pillory is aliased to _stocks already, so I see no particular reason to not do the same to ipotane too, since it’s very similar pedantly.

Yes. But the tag does not exist, you’ve said yourself it’s “really obscure” and the satyr tag is well known enough that people are more likely to keep using that so the question is why bother aliasing when it isn’t necessary?

For me, “garters” is only applicable if the belt isn’t visible. If it is, it’s simply “garter belt” rather than using both tags.

Then at least “garter belt” should imply “garters”, since the presence of a garter belt implies the presence of garters. Is this really a meaningful distinction, though?
