Odd… I seem to remember the first two stories I listed getting a much more positive reception than his later work…

That’s because the first was interesting in just what it tried to do(i.e. explain what Celestia’s firkin deal is) and the second had Trixie.

They were decent, then after the Power Ponies annual they started falling flat.

She was still kind of freaking out when Discord came with Smooze and wanted that night to be perfect for Celestia. So there is still some freaking out in her.

And there were definitely some freak-outs during season 4.

Very different situation. We’ve already had Twilight learning to relax over work all the way back in Lesson Zero, and the breathing stuff she learned from Cadance in Games Ponies Play kinda sealed that.
 
Not calling the comic bad, it’s just odd when the character suddenly behaves like they did way back in the early seasons. #30 though got the worst of it when Rarity just betrays her friends because of the promise of a bit of extra business. That might have flown by in early S1, but post S4 it just feels extremely OOC.

Well if they would keep the characters progress consistant then they would have them too developed to create more stories and would actually think about changing the cast. I’m sure they will still have episodes in FiM where they learn same things. I bet Fluttershy will have an assertiveness lesson again this year even after the progress in this season.

ANd its kind of weird that twilight was able to convince applejack and not rarity when AJ is supposed to be more stubborn then her.

Friends Forever 17 is good. It’s not amazing but I have no significant complaints about it.
 
Brenda Hickey’s art continues to be great.
 
Field research Twilight returns from Feeling Pinkie Keen. I like that pith helmeted side of her.
 
It’s a Friends Forever issue that actually focuses on the featured duo.

I thought #14 was really the only one that had the “not actually focusing on the two characters” problem…

#16 did not focus on Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara as much as Diamond Tiara and the CMC. Velma pony had more of a role than Silver Spoon.

Kinda meh. If it wasn’t for Twilight’s expressions then I’d say it was forgettable.

I’d say it actually focuses more on the CMC than the bullies. Which could be a sign that Strand is trolling us. Hopefully she’s not, and DT’s mother is dead or Diamond’s a bedwetter or is terrified of the dark and sleeps with a nightlight or has Bipolar Disorder or dies in a tragic vehicular accident or gets amnesia or gets sent to boarding school or boot camp or lives on Sweet Apple Acres for one episode or gets beaten up by a bigger bully or develops depression and attempts suicide or gets transported to Springfield or all of the above.

Well this was a pretty lackluster 2nd half. Felt like it was mainly filler to get to the end.

Seems like the pitched idea was too much for one issue but not enough for two, so both issues had a lot of fluff to pad out the pages.

Finished reading the comic at /mlp/ and I must agree that this was one of the laziest, dullest comics ever.
 
Garb’s art has nicely improved, but as Price and Cook already taught us, nice art cannot save a badly written comic and argh why this comic had so many naming mistakes, why the editor didn’t corrected the ponies using the word “hands” and just argh so many little big details.
