@Yorec I seriously consider Edward to be one of the greatest characters ever written completely by accident. Meyer had no idea, crafting the perfect damaged bad boy love interest with no flaws at all, that she was creating the first truly excellent Byronic hero in over a century.

Seriously, he’s intensely flawed as a human being, possessive, judgmental, and with no sense of personal space, but he IS a Christian man turned into a demon, struggling to retain his morality with his hunger eating at him, plucked out of time and so completely isolated that he really does know no better. He is FASCINATING in his own self-destruction.
 
Come to think of it, the same could be said about a lot of characters in this franchise. I think Meyer is an idiot savante with the idiot still behind the wheels.

I had to sit through them with my girlfriend, and yeah, they’re pretty damned bad. The only good character was this one named Alice. It’s like she was from a way better movie and just came over for a visit.

You know I actually feel kind of sorry for Edward. Yeah his life may have been a bit boring before Bella came into his life but at least he wasn’t being emotionally manipulated by a one dimensional, boring and self-centered character.
