spike is young and a dragon i think rarity can look past being a dragon but he can be any where from 8 to 18 so rarity will wait for him like all sappy love storys age base twi is 20ish faust says and hatched spike about 8 to 12 if i had to guess

Rarity’s problem with Spike is most likely do to the fact that he is a dragon. Now if Spike is a stallion, then I think she may consider him. She does still care about him.  
However, Twilight is the one who pretty much raised Spike. They basically know each other more than anybody else in the world. What kind of child would not feel anything when their parent/sibling or guardian abandons them?  
There are numerous fanfics in the past describing Spike running away from Twilight. We now know those are obsolete.
