People keep talking about Celestia like Chrysalis would even try to fight her again. Heck she tried to monologue her way out of the first fight to buy time for her army to get there. She would just have a few thousand changelings swarm Celestia instead.
 
Though the Crystal Empire is part of Equestria so it isn’t like Shining Armor would be going far even if Cadance decides not to run the whole thing from Caterlot like Celestia does with… well the rest of her Country.

The show really needs to establish what equestria really is. Is it a nation? because the crystal “empire” appeared in northern equestria… So what exactly is equestria. a nation.. a continent.. We know it can’t be the planet, because there are beings from outside of equestria, and the fact that Pinkie Pie called it Earth.

Chrysalis finds sombra’s horn, gets possessed/gains his power/revives him, goes to canterlot to fuck shit up with her army of changelings, ensuing chaos revives discord who also proceeds to fuck shit up and Gilda comes back to punch fluttershy for some reason.

Wait. Why won’t he still be captain? He is going to give up his job just because he married a princess and can live a life in a palace with his own guards… oh wait.. Nevermind.

Remember how Celestia was more powerful than Chrysalis by default? If it wasn’t for the “love energy” that she sapped from Shining Armour, she would’ve been obliterated. And also Chrysalis caught them by surprise. I’m pretty sure the Celestial Sisters are prepared for such attacks in the future.
 
As for who would be the new captain of the Royal Guards. I’d be obliged(JKing). Maybe Rainbow Dash? Wonderbolt Captain of the Royal Guards?

The ending of Crystal Empire strongly implied that Cadance would rule the place, and she could hardly be expected to do without her meat shield/boy toy, now could she?
