They do have distinct personalities.  
They’re just a heck of a lot harder to remember because unlike ponies there is no elements that would hint on anything “This one is kind this one is loyal this one is…” you get the idea.  
Also the naming with ponies is a lot easier to remember because they usually have something to do with their personalities, jobs or even cutie marks.  
LPS? Not so much.
 
It’s far easier to remember that Fluttershy is shy, cowardly and kind (Element) than remember that this mongoose name was Sunil Nevla (also a coward and dabbling magician/illusionist).
 
So far from the 7 pets i’m not sure only about one.  
Penny who has like… 3 or 4 lines of dialogue so far (4 episodes).  
So far i can only assume she’s the local Fluttershy.

The writing seems to be trying to find a middle ground between Hasbro’s other properties (the crap-sappy appeal of Shortcake and Care Bears) and MLP, but it winds up being pretty meh at both. But, MLP’s pilot was also poor, so it could go either way. The first 3 eps are mostly a bust for me except for the twins, so I’ll wait til the first season is finished and marathon the rest.
 
 
Haha Starly, oh man I have seen that sentiment so much all over youtube. Buckets o’ rage. There’s this thing called a focus group, Hasbro. Maybe next time if you even ARE using one, find ones that actually buy your crap. You already ruined Joes. Don’t ruin this either!

Hell i even liked how Pepper rustles Russels jimmmies about the “security lasers”.
 
I also like how the voicee actor for Russel (a hedgehog) also did the voice for Sonic in “Sonic Underground” (and sounds conspiciously like Sonic from ASOTH as well.

Nope. I tried to watch this show and while it’s not horrible I don’t care for it. I am glad people enjoy it but I hope we don’t see too much of a flood of LPS images.

Sorry, I’ve watched your show and it didn’t have the same appeal. Daniel Ingram, Ashleigh Ball, and Peter New can only carry a show so far.
