- Blue Jay is the first born and only daughter of Braeburn and Spitfire. Spitfire named her daughter after the bird that landed in the windowsill in Appleloosa after her birth–taking it as a sign of good luck.
- Jay grew up with a head full of hot air like her father–much to her mother’s annoyance/amusement. The little filly is a total Momma’s girl and isn’t as close to her Apple side like her brother is. When it came time for Blue Jay to start learning how to fly she simply couldn’t get that far up off the ground without facing terrible pain. Her worried parents took her to the doctor and she was born with no cartilage in the joints of her wings that causes the bones to grind together when she flaps them. Thanks to some corrective surgeries and physical therapy she slowly getting the hang of flying but she tires out too easily and besides she enjoys walking anyways.
- The day little Buckwheat was born was the happiest day in little Jay’s life. She adores her baby brother and spending all day with the little colt. Around the time Buck was starting school, Jay took him to see one of their mother’s Wonderbolt shows when all of a sudden their “uncle” Soarin took out a rare Cerulean Paradise-flycatcher. Jay caught the little bird before he could hit the ground and insisted to her parents that she could nurse the bird back to health. Sure enough, after several stressful months, the bird was finally able to fly out her bedroom window and her cutie mark appeared–she could’t have been happier!
- When she was graduating, she really wanted to become a vet but bits were tight in her family after her mother retired form the Wonderbolts. So she did the next thing she could and joined up in the Guard, even though her parents begged her not to. The pay was good and she could save up to go to veterinary school and send some extra bits to her family.
- Jay was paired with an odd herd of friends: a bookworm named Silver Lining, over-ecstatic twins Cascading Insignia and Valiant Shield, and a hawty show-off unicorn named Flame Streak. Being their medic, Jay patched up her fair share of injuries from the group getting themselves into trouble on missions. Then when the Guard was deported to far away lands to squish a rebellion the injuries she saw there were too much for the pegasus to bare anymore–and besides she has finally saved up enough bits to go to school. Jay retired along with Cassiw and Silver Lining and pursued her dreams of being an avian veterinary.
- Currently Blue Jay has just finished up her schooling and is studying under the Appleloosa veterinary and hopes to someday open up her own clinic. All with pestering her dear mother and father while trying to teach her brother to lighten up.
