I’d support it only for the reason because it is difficult to let someone know you’ve seen their good comment. Even the giants need some appreciation here and now.
 
No biggie of course, probably noone is commenting for their 15 minutes of ’net fame anyway.

Here’s a tip: if reading comments of any sort bothers you that much, you shouldn’t be taking everything so seriously.
 
The only comments I ever have issue with are those with really graphic images posted within them. I do wish we had a comment numbering system, though, so it would be easier to report a particular comment (in the seldom event I want to report such).

I used to agree with you, but then I remembered what happened on EqD when it had thumbs down, and what happens in some youtube videos every time a big site links to them, or the video is popular enough for the top comments to change frequently.

Comment ratings tend to be biased to reflect popularity in the long run. It’s not a good idea because it’ll lose any measure of objectivity it was meant to display.
